Trading IdeaLab

[tab name=’The Lab’]

Many of the strategies listed here are in an extremely crude (read: pathetic) state. They are trading ideas directly lifted from fellow traders. Given that 98% of traders are losers, I cannot guarantee the ideas below are the ‘Holy Grail’! If you want strategies that are more optimized, head over to the Strategy Incubator. Use at your own risk. But if you do have any ideas on how to improve it, comment below. That’d be awesome.

Canadian Breakout

First seen in Survive And Prosper in the Great Depression of 2009-2012 by J.J. Glenellis Note: This author is rated a suspicious 1.32 on http://www.forexpeacearmy.com/public/review/www.simple4xsystem.net

FX pairs Only the USD/CAD

So what is it? Note that there is no fundamentals behind this ‘breakout’ strategy. However, it is believed that the liquidity provided when the US and Canadian markets open simultaneously is enough to move this pair. However, analysis shows that the London market for USDCAD is even bigger than that of the American market. Nevertheless, the strategy is as follows. First, open a USD/CAD 5 min chart at 8 am EST. Discern the immediate trend prior to the 8 am opening bell. If it has been in a downtrend, sell; vice versa if uptrend. The original strategy calls for a 20-pip take profit, but didn’t specify a stop-loss >.< So much for a ‘strategy’.

Afterthought Wow. After a visual backtest, I must say that I am quite impressed. After playing around with some parameters, then coding an EA and automatically backtesting, the strategy was right quite a good percentage of time. I have also devised extra rules as filters. I would add

Exhaustion Scalp

FX pairs Only the EUR/JPY and GBP/JPY

So what is it? Place 2 moving averages on a 5-min chart – the 20 period and 100 period SMA. The 100 SMA is there just to give the direction of the prevailing trend. It is not really needed if you can read price action. The trades you make are based solely on the 20 SMA. That said, this strategy ‘aims for 15 pips at a time’ but I’ve seen that the potential is there for around 20 pips on a countertrend move and upwards of 60 pips on a trend-following move. The 100 SMA determines if your trade is countertrend or not.

OO Magnet Trade

FX pairs Preferably high movement pairs like EUR/JPY and GBP/JPY but GBP/USD is possible. Boris states in his comments that he trades EU, GU, EJ, GJ and UJ.

So what is it? This builds on the exhaustion scalp strategy, with the 20 period and 100 period SMA acting as trend filters. You have to watch the video to get the idea. I don’t intend to trade this strategy and is here only for reference.

Super Simple Scalp

First seen at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sY74cbqeRHI [Part 1]

[Part 2]

FX pairs The strategy in part 1 is for EU and GU while that in part 2 is for EJ and GJ.

So what is it? I believe that the interval is 50 pips instead of 25 pips.

Session-based Breakout Scalp

First seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BFZiGo5ueE by Boris Schlossberg

FX pairs EUR/USD

So what is it?  We demarcate the Asian session highs and lows. If the high or low is 10 pips of less away from a quadrant (ending with .0025/.25) then we move the high or low to that quadrant. We buy or sell on a break of the aforementioned highs and lows. You have to watch the video to get the idea. In fact, it is too confusing for me 🙁

The strategies listed here are definitely researched and proven to work, but they are not quite ready to be traded on a live account. Thus, they are put in this incubator pending further optimization, allowing the strategies to nurture and grow. They are traded in very tiny lots on my OandA account to simulate real-world psychology and price action. When the Maturity of the strategy hits 100%, I will be graduating it as part of my strategies.

As always, trade with care.

Believe me when I say the stuff here stinks. (I hesitate to even call them strategies) You can rummage through this trash and see if you can make some gold out of it. Hey and if you do, email me. 🙂
